Odhner Arithmometer (1890)

Willgodt Theophil Odhner's pinwheel calculator became the most popular mechanical calculator design for nearly a century.

Each digit position has a wheel with adjustable pins (0-9). When the crank turns, extended pins engage the counting mechanism.

Simpler and more compact than the Thomas Arithmometer, with direct pin-setting rather than Leibniz wheels. Over 100 manufacturers copied this design.
