How to use:
Click to place points. Double-click or click near the first point to close the shape. The planimeter will trace the boundary and compute the area.

Polar Planimeter (1854)

Invented by Jakob Amsler, this instrument measures the area of any closed curve by tracing its boundary.

It works via Green's theorem: the area integral equals a line integral around the boundary. A small measuring wheel rolls along, and its total rotation equals the enclosed area.

The polar arm is fixed at a pivot point. The tracer arm follows the curve. The wheel between them records the area.
