Milankovitch (Orbital) Cycles

Earth's orbit changes cyclically: eccentricity (100 kyr, orbit shape), obliquity (41 kyr, axial tilt 22.1–24.5°), and precession (23 kyr, wobble). Together they modulate summer insolation at 65°N, controlling whether snow survives the summer. When insolation drops below a threshold, ice sheets grow; when it rises, they retreat.
